At Newsle, you can work on all aspects of the product, from building and scaling the core NLP algorithms to generating newsfeeds and pushing them to the frontend.
Newsle is funded by top VCs and based in SOMA in San Francisco. We’re looking for:

Full-Stack Engineer
Job Responsibilities:
- Conceive, build, and test new product features
- Develop new social ranking and relevance functions for people and news articles
- Work on challenging computer science problems while keeping focus on the product
Qualifications - Requirements:
- Strong coding skills
- Good product sense
- Strong communication skills and a desire to work on a small team
- Strong foundation in computer science
Qualifications - Helpful:
- Computer science degree from a strong undergrad department
- Experience in any of the following:
- Python
- MySQL, Redis, MongoDB
- Frontend or mobile development (JQuery, iOS, etc.)
- Distributed processing (like Celery)

Backend/Infrastructure Engineer
Job Responsibilities:
- Build high performance systems to process and store huge datasets
- Solve problems at all layers of our stack, from scaling machine learning algorithms to ordering and pushing newsfeeds
- Work on challenging computer science problems while keeping focus on the product
Qualifications - Requirements:
- Linux/unix fluency (do you love screen?)
- Experience building distributed systems at scale
- Experience with MySQL
- Strong communication skills and a desire to work on a small team
- Strong foundation in computer systems (operating systems, networking, etc)
Qualifications - Helpful:
- Computer science degree from a strong undergrad department
- Experience in any of the following:
- Python/cython
- C
- Graph databases
- Redis/mongodb
- Celery/rabbitmq or gearman
- Asynchronous networking (like Twisted)

Machine Learning Engineer
Job Responsibilities:
- Work on our disambiguation and information extraction algorithms
- Identify interesting patterns in existing datasets
- Work on cutting-edge NLP/machine learning problems while keeping focus on the product
- Implement and scale new ideas from NLP/ML research
Qualifications - Requirements:
- Strong CS and math background
- Interest in applying algorithms to improve the product
- Strong communication skills and a desire to work on a small team
Qualifications - Helpful:
- Computer science or math degree from a strong graduate department
- Experience in any of the following:
- Supervised learning (Decision Trees, Logistic Regression, SVMs, etc)
- Unsupervised learning (topic modeling by LDA, NMF, Isomap, autoencoders)
- Deep-learning approaches (Neural Networks)
- Designing features for a domain problem, and running the project from the prototype phase to production, with a high-performance implementation
- Python, MySQL
You'd be a great fit if:
- You live for papers on bagging and dimensionality reduction, and you stay up late wondering how a randomized method might reduce variance of your model or how you can make the Johnson-Lindenstrauss lemma work for your problem
- You love Python for prototyping an idea or playing with data, but you can reach out to Cython, Ctypes, PyCuda, or Hadoop Streaming when speed, size or scale matters, and know how to optimize data structures and algorithms when you can't.

UI/UX Designer
Job Responsibilities:
- Design new web and mobile interfaces from the ground up
- Identify UX problems and brainstorm improvements
- Create awesome experiences
Qualifications - Requirements:
- Good product sense
- Focus on intuitive UI layout, not just polish (though we like nice textures too)
- Strong communication skills and a desire to work on a small team
- Strong portfolio of existing web & mobile apps
- Experience with:
- Interaction, UI, and graphic design
- Rapid iteration on wireframes and mock-ups
- Photoshop & Illustrator
Qualifications - Helpful:
- Experience in any of the following:
- Responsive design techniques
- HTML, CSS, Javascript
- Motion design
- Prototyping
